Kilrush Community School will mark its twenty-five-year anniversary in September of this year. As part of the planned celebrations to be held, a CD recording of both past and present students was made on Friday 20th January at a concert held in the school. A large number of students took part and there were over 25 different items recorded. The concert producers were Tola Custy and Leona Ryan.
The dancing production, included various types of set, step and sean nós, choreographed by John Fennell. The music included solo performance, duets, rock band and traditional groups. The concert concluded with a medley of songs from the school Seinn Choir led by Karol Torpey and Brenda Honan. Master of ceremonies for the night was Maeve Howard.
A moving tribute was made on the night to the late Peg Martin, who would have first introduced many of the students to traditional music. A brief history of the story behind the formation of Kilrush Community School was presented by Dr Joe Power.
There is a programme of events to mark the 25th Anniversary being planned for the school year 2017-2018. The organisers would welcome ideas from past and present students.
